YC Review: Accordion Player (1888)

Image
Year: 1888 Producer:    Louis Aimé Augustin Le Prince Director:  Louis Aimé Augustin Le Prince What can you review about this? It's a man playing an accordion for a few seconds. But, it is a very important piece from history that if it wasn't made, we may not have the huge wealth of film production that we have now.

New Years Resolutions 2016

Image
So this is what I plan 2016 to have in hold for me. Let's see how many I succeed on this year. Being more ambitious with Jack Union as I edge ever closer, and number 11 is the most important, I must stop ruining my own chances.

Jared Leto as The Joker

Image
There has been a massive critical hatred for Jared Leto's The Joker image that was shared on twitter last week, but what does everyone really think? Personally, I quite like it. He certainly encapsulates the mania and hysteria that The Joker has, and some of the tattoo's are great, but 'damaged' written on his forehead?? Really? The purple glove looks a little ridiculous too, and is not necessary in the slightest. Rumour has it this isn't the final design, I can't wait to see the finished result.

New Years Resolutions 2015

Image
This year's New Years Resolutions. Let's see how we do compared to last year!

Reviewed: New Years Resolutions 2014

2013 I completed 2 of my new years resolutions, 2014 saw me complete 3! Lets take a look back and see what was a success and where I went wrong! Before tomorrow's revealing of my 2015 New Years Resolutions. The tracking sheet that Joanne inspired me on has disappeared but I am going to try and do the same this year! 1. Complete the Second Draft of Jack Union: Ab Initio - FAILED! Jack Union, my ever present fantasy novel got off to a great start at the beginning part of the year but I  somewhat got a little blocked as the year went on. Perhaps it was a lack of free time with On Call and busy work, my nephew being born, or maybe I've just got a little bit lazy and lost my way in terms of my dreams. So of course, this will be back on my 2015 New Years Resolutions and I am more determined than ever to complete it! 2. Produce, Film & Complete The Keys Of Cochyuffern Woods - FAILED! Another dream I appear to have lost my way on, I didn't even write a script! How...

My Most Anticipated Films: July 2014

Image
Is it just me or are this years movies not as exciting as previous years?? Anyway, July, July, July. Transformers: Age Of Extinction What is it about?   Earth is scarred by the events of the past three movies, but is moving on after all the giant robots disappeared. Cade Yeager, an inventor, discovers a buried Transformer, which sets the stage for the return of the Autobots and Decepticons. When is it released?  Thursday 10th July Why I'm looking forward to it?  Let's be honest, no one watches Transformers and expects a great story, but they are truly escapist high action films. I think Marky Mark will be a whole lot less annoy ing the Shia Le Buff-ting, and we robot dinosaurs always seem fun! Domestic Opening UK Opening Domestic Overall UK Overall Worldwide Total   $90,000,000  $13,000,000  $240,000,000  $35,000,000  $800,000,000 Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes What is it about?   A growing nation of genetic...

The Cat In The Hat is one of my favourite films :)

YC Review: The Kings Of Summer

Image
Why Live When You Can Rule? Being a film fanatic there is nothing better than stumbling across a fantastic film. One of these is The Kings Of Summer. I watched it thanks to the availability on Amazon Prime Instant Video. I love a good quirky coming-of-age film. But if someone described this film to me, I'd probably turn away. It's about three teenage boys who, fed up with their previous lives, run away and build a house in the woods. An odd concept, but the story is fantastic. Starring Nick Robinson, Gabriel Basso, and Moisés Arias as the three boys, they 'fend for themselves' and learn to grow into men. The beginning and the beginning of the end are the weaker parts, the beginning when trying to find reasons for the teens to run away, they're not particularly great reasons, but very typical teenage ones. I've outgrown my teenage years, do teens still run away because their dad makes awkward jokes? The end gets a little bit too love triangly for my liki...

My Most Anticipated Films: June 2014

Image
Summer has kicked off! Summer brings the big guns of Movies. So which ones am I looking forward to? June appears to me, in the UK at least to be a quiet month for blockbusters, but what is the cream of the crop? Also a new feature, just for funsies; some box office predictions for my anticipated films The Fault In Our Stars What is it about?   Hazel (Shailene Woodley) and Gus (Ansel Elgort) are two extraordinary teenagers who share an acerbic wit, a disdain for the conventional, and a love that sweeps them -- and us -- on an unforgettable journey. Their relationship is all the more miraculous, given that they met and fell in love at a cancer support group. THE FAULT IN OUR STARS, based upon the number-one bestselling novel by John Green, explores the funny, thrilling and tragic business of being alive and in love. When is it released?  Thursday 19th June Why I'm looking forward to it?  This could possibly be the most beautiful film of the summer. I d...

YC Review: The Perks Of Being A Wallflower

Image
We Accept The Love We Think We Deserve Today, I stumbled across possibly the best film I have seen so far this year. It is definitely going into my top 10 favourite ever. It is The Perks Of Being A Wallflower . The story of a boy, who is the titular wallflower. Shy, keeps himself to himself, quietly grieving the loss of his friend who committed suicide within the last year, and more that is revealed throughout the film. The Boy, Charlie played by Logan Lerman, finds himself engrossed into a beautiful friendship amongst fellow misfits, predominantly Emma Watson's Sam, and Ezra Miller's Patrick. The two of them have similarly difficult backgrounds. Patrick is in a secret gay relationship with a jock style popular kid and has to keep it secret, whilst Sam had a promiscuous past and suffered from her first kiss at eleven years old with her dad's boss. The reason why the film is so beautiful; their perfect, beautiful, friendship. I'm not going to explain much mor...

My Most Anticipated Films: May 2014

Image
Really starting to get into the summer blockbusters this month! Here's my top 3 most anticipated films of May 2014: Pompeii What is it about?   A slave-turned-gladiator finds himself in a race against time to save his true love, who has been betrothed to a corrupt Roman Senator. As Mount Vesuvius erupts, he must fight to save his beloved as Pompeii crumbles around him. When is it released?  Friday 2nd May Why I'm looking forward to it?  This film has so many things going for it; a major spectacle, a tragic love story (that may not have been successfully revealed through the marketing) and based on a historical event that has always interested me. I am hoping there is an equal blend of romance, disaster and action in this to be a success. It unfortunately flopped in the USA grossing just $23million, and performed even worse in Italy, but I'm hoping that is just bad release dates. Bad Neighbours What is it about?   A couple with a newborn ba...

My Most Anticipated Films: April 2014

Image
Here's my top 3 most anticipated films of April 2014: Divergent What is it about?   DIVERGENT is a thrilling action-adventure film set in a world where people are divided into distinct factions based on human virtues. Tris Prior (Shailene Woodley) is warned she is Divergent and will never fit into any one group. When she discovers a conspiracy by a faction leader (Kate Winslet) to destroy all Divergents, Tris must learn to trust in the mysterious Four (Theo James) and together they must find out what makes being Divergent so dangerous before it's too late. Based on the best-selling book series by Veronica Roth. When is it released?  Friday 4th April Why I'm looking forward to it?  What looks like a great story (and unfortunately I haven't read the books yet), Divergent is the kind of film right down my alley. With Rebellion, and dystopian themes, and what looks like some great acting! Noah What is it about?   Official Trailer of NOAH movie starring...

My Most Anticipated Films: March 2014

Image
Here's my top 3 most anticipated films of March 2014: The Grand Budapest Hotel What is it about?   Wes Anderson's THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL recounts the adventures of Gustave H, a legendary concierge at a famous European hotel between the wars, and Zero Moustafa, the lobby boy who becomes his most trusted friend. When is it released? Friday 7th March Why I'm looking forward to it? The trailer looks hilarious, a real British and slight dark humour. It's boasts a great cast including Ralph Fiennes (with a nose), Edward Norton, Jude Law, Tilda Swinton, and Willem Defoe just to name a few! Captain America: The Winter Soldier What is it about?   Two years after the events of  The Avengers,   Steve Rogers  resides peacefully in Washington, D.C., struggling to adapt to contemporary society. However, after a  S.H.I.E.L.D.  compatriot is assailed, Rogers becomes entangled in a mystery that may endanger the globe. Together with  Natasha Ro...

The Love Not Taken

Image

Other Ways

Image
This was our second year 16mm drama production. Starring Kevin Kamara and Itoya Osagiede, it follows the two men's struggles with gang culture. With a crew of 15 and several extras required, it didn't come without it's production issues, but everyone worked out in the end and I'm very proud of the work everyone put in, and I'm proud to have produced this. The story involved the issue of knife crime and teenage gang culture, hinting at the peer pressures of teenage violence.

The Christmas Documentary

Image
Our first main second year project was the Documentary. After many pre-production problems, we eventually managed to produce a documentary around people's views on Christmas. Sara and I managed to get this idea from production to reality in less than five days. Our documentary was originally going to be on midget comedians or something. I was Camera Operator for this project on the Canon 5D. I was especially proud of the time lapse, in which I took every single photo but on, my cameo photograph. We got some really great shots and got a great variety of people to talk to us about Christmas.

Salisbury Wildlife Centre Documentary

Image
I'm going to spend the next few posts about the films I've made. The first piece of work I'm actually proud of was the 'Salisbury Wildlife Centre Documentary' It's a short piece about a local wildlife centre and how they work with the animals. It was great fun to produce, with a brilliant crew.

New Years Resolutions 2014

Image
It's that time of year again where I come up with my New Years Resolutions. I completed 2 of last years (once again) but that doesn't matter because 10. Overcome My Illness was one of them, and I am so much better! This year I am going to be much more prepared thanks to some inspiration from my friend Joanne. I am going to track my progress every week to make sure I keep up with each resolution. 2014 is going to be my year.  Wish me Luck! TizRheaD
