The Woolwich Attack
Awful news today as a reported Soldier was brutally murdered with a machete by two muslim men, for more news on this visit http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-22630304
However, it's not this news that is the most sickening of this saga. The worst is the racist backlash towards muslims and coloured skin that makes me sick. Firstly, the face that the two men were muslim is actually kind of irrelevant. It's not the religion that made them these evil beings, it's the way they have misunderstood or misconstrued their teachings. The immediate backlash on muslims is happening again and it isn't the religion that's the problem. It's specific people. If it was a Christian who attacked the soldier, their religion wouldn't even be questioned.
Even the Muslim Council of Britain agrees:
The Muslim Council of Britain has condemned the Woolwich attack. "This is a truly barbaric act that has no basis in Islam and we condemn this unreservedly," its statement said.
Secondly, and this has happened to a friend of mine, and this makes me sick. People blaming the whole coloured population. Regardless of their religion (this friend was Sikh) they are personally attacked for the events of today simply for the colour of their skin, when anyone with sense would realise the stupidity of these views.
So basically, think before you speak, and get your facts straight. A group of people cannot be blamed for the actions of few.
My thoughts are with the victim's family, and anyone else affected by this travesty, but also to those who are the subject of racist abuse of any form for no reason.
