YC Review: The Kings Of Summer

Image
Why Live When You Can Rule? Being a film fanatic there is nothing better than stumbling across a fantastic film. One of these is The Kings Of Summer. I watched it thanks to the availability on Amazon Prime Instant Video. I love a good quirky coming-of-age film. But if someone described this film to me, I'd probably turn away. It's about three teenage boys who, fed up with their previous lives, run away and build a house in the woods. An odd concept, but the story is fantastic. Starring Nick Robinson, Gabriel Basso, and Moisés Arias as the three boys, they 'fend for themselves' and learn to grow into men. The beginning and the beginning of the end are the weaker parts, the beginning when trying to find reasons for the teens to run away, they're not particularly great reasons, but very typical teenage ones. I've outgrown my teenage years, do teens still run away because their dad makes awkward jokes? The end gets a little bit too love triangly for my liki

Chris Ramsey has always been one of my favourite comedians, particularly after having seen him live last summer in Salisbury. This latest Twitter campaign to get #PizzaOnATrain with Dominos pizza has to be one of the best things to happen on the social networking site. My Most Anticipated Films: June 2014

Image
Summer has kicked off! Summer brings the big guns of Movies. So which ones am I looking forward to? June appears to me, in the UK at least to be a quiet month for blockbusters, but what is the cream of the crop? Also a new feature, just for funsies; some box office predictions for my anticipated films The Fault In Our Stars What is it about?   Hazel (Shailene Woodley) and Gus (Ansel Elgort) are two extraordinary teenagers who share an acerbic wit, a disdain for the conventional, and a love that sweeps them -- and us -- on an unforgettable journey. Their relationship is all the more miraculous, given that they met and fell in love at a cancer support group. THE FAULT IN OUR STARS, based upon the number-one bestselling novel by John Green, explores the funny, thrilling and tragic business of being alive and in love. When is it released?  Thursday 19th June Why I'm looking forward to it?  This could possibly be the most beautiful film of the summer. I do love quirky c

Disney's Big Hero 6 Trailer has Arrived!

Image
It's what we've been waiting for, a long time coming! I love it! Considering it has such little information released for the film, and I surprised, but in a good way. The white balloony character seems hilarious and sweet and the young boy has such a great manga/japanese style to him it looks like the animation could have a fantastic style. I can't believe in the UK we have to wait until February! I hope we've got another Disney hit on our hands. What are your thoughts?

Hotel Review: The Ibis Styles Hotel @ The London Excel

Image
Last weekend, I went on a trip to London with my sister Dani and stayed at the Ibis Styles hotel opposite the London Excel.  Now I know that things are more expensive in the capital but I didn't expect such bad value for money like this place. around £90 per night, what you get is a tiny cubicle of a bathroom with a shower you can barely move in without being attacked by the shower curtain, and a toilet with no brush for when you may want to clean something yourself! The bedroom was nice, the basic that I expected. Unfortunately the bedding had a rip in it but it was at least clean. Noise was minimal apart from a bloody annoying flag outside (and a snoring sister), but the most annoying thing was the wi-fi cutting out every so often. Overall the staff were nice, apart from one rude lady who was particularly unhelpful when I asked if the Cafe was going to be open that day (it wasn't) but the pub staff were particularly nice and the food there was really good va

dreams be dreams part XXV & XXVI

Image
For anyone who has read this blog for a long time, my dreams used to be an important part of it! And then life got in the way, so here's a couple of my previously recorded dreams for your entertainment; XXV (16th September 2011) A big family gathering at what looked like Christiaan’s old bungalow but with a much larger gardn. Elly, Kelly, Nanny Ould, Leah, Ryan. Dad, Mum, Me, Vicky, Nan, and Charlotte were all there and discussing stuff in the back of the garden in the sun. Dad was reminding me of memories and mum was ranting about something to do with cars because she got drunk. Some randomers were around too. These two guys were my friends, and we kept getting attention from girls. They kept sitting on the arms of the chairs I was sitting on, and I kissed one of them before drinking shots with them. XXVI (17th September 2011) In a bedroom in a boat talking to loads of new freshers and getting to know their names as the only second year there. There’s

Can the United Kingdom Ever Do Well In Eurovision?

Image
With a song as beautifully constructed as Molly's Children Of the Universe, I genuinely thought that for once this year the United Kingdom could have pushed past the boundaries of the political voting. Now there are things that aren't related to the political bullshit in this year's contest; Why the fuck were we left to be after the shit that was San Marino's Valentina (Maybe STFU!) Everyone love's a bearded lady apparently. Unlike the majority of the acts that have the semi-final, this is the first thing Europe see of our acts, not giving them a chance to fall in love with Molly!! Does Europe know we really don't take Eurovision as seriously as they do?? But this year's effort was great, and no we don't take our biggest stars to Eurovision but it's because they don't need to. Eurovision isn't a massive opportunity in the UK like it in other places. Oh wait, is this why? Do they realise that much that we don't give a sh

30 Day Grey's Anatomy Challenge: All Time Favourite Thing - Day 30

30 Day Grey's Anatomy Challenge: All Time Favourite Thing About Grey's Anatomy The Story The conclusion of this challenge is a chance for me to mention just how great the storytelling is of Grey's Anatomy. Whether its from the surprise reveal of Addison at the end of the first season or whether it's the development of Meredith & Cristina's friendship, it's definitely the best show on television at the moment. The show has a perfect blend of drama and comedy, with emotion and warmth. Let's just take this time to have a Grey's Anatomy Appreciation Page Part 2 Check out the previous 30 Day Grey's Anatomy Challenge entries: Day 29 -  Day 28  -  Day 27  -  Day 26  -  Day 25  -  Day 24 Day 23  -  Day 22  -  Day 21  -  Day 20  -  Day 19  -  Day 18 Day 17  -  Day 16  -  Day 15  -  Day 14  -  Day 13  -  Day 12 Day 11  -  Day 10  -  Day 9  -  Day 8  -  Day 7  -  Day 6 Day 5  -  Day 4  -  Day 3  -  Day 2  -  Day

500th Post: A Little Bit Of Jack Union

Image
I can't believe this is my 500th Post! How crazy is that. I always feel like milestones like this should be personal, so here's an excerpt from Jack Union: Ab Initio. They walked through the big green gates of the “Hearts School” that were topped with spikes and barbed wire and instantly watched the first fight of the day, between three year 5s, and two year 4s, all of which probably didn’t really know why they were fighting. Hearts School was very well known in the neighbour as rough to say the least. First of all, Bullies were rife in this area of study. It was very shocking the day you would not witness a fight of some sort, and Jack and his friends had several times been victim to this. Secondly, the bins were constantly overflowing, being emptied once a week to save on the school budget. Letitiah would always ask the braver Jack to put the rubbish in the bins, as she was terribly afraid of the rats that had been seen several times. The teachers who would walk aro
