500th Post: A Little Bit Of Jack Union

I can't believe this is my 500th Post! How crazy is that.

I always feel like milestones like this should be personal, so here's an excerpt from Jack Union: Ab Initio.

They walked through the big green gates of the “Hearts School” that were topped with spikes and barbed wire and instantly watched the first fight of the day, between three year 5s, and two year 4s, all of which probably didn’t really know why they were fighting. Hearts School was very well known in the neighbour as rough to say the least. First of all, Bullies were rife in this area of study. It was very shocking the day you would not witness a fight of some sort, and Jack and his friends had several times been victim to this.
Secondly, the bins were constantly overflowing, being emptied once a week to save on the school budget. Letitiah would always ask the braver Jack to put the rubbish in the bins, as she was terribly afraid of the rats that had been seen several times. The teachers who would walk around at break and lunchtime often ignored the sight of vermin, or the sight of a fight so that they could keep to their flasks of tea. Jack and his friends walked up the drive and just at the end; they walked into the tutor room of theirs to find it empty. This was how Jack liked it best. “Good morning children, in you go!” Mrs Jig ushered behind them after appearing out of nowhere. They walked in and sat down together in the middle of the very normal, mundane classroom. Before Mrs Jig had reached her desk, the rest of the class had entered loudly and abruptly, and were hustling and bustling to their seats. The register was taken and the announcements were about to be made. “Okay, today we begin the awareness week for PETA.” She explained in her typically shaky aging voice. She was a rather old lady, with short man-like hair that had begun greying. “Each assembly this week will feature something to help you to find out about the awful use of fur in the fashion industry, and even wool.” She explained, although half the class were not listening, and in deep conversation.“Wool isn’t that bad,” Called a boy called Kaffir. He was not the most popular of the students. He was the biggest, both by weight and cruelty, and the worst bully in Jack’s year. Everyone looked round as he shrugged his fat shoulders but daren’t look at him in the eyes to avoid a beating.“It’s awful I’ll have you know, if you listened in my textiles classes, you’d know that they chop the backs of their legs off without any anaesthetics, to make them grow wool faster, and don’t even get me started on fly strike.” She explained shrilly, it was clearly something she was passionate about. She began to rant until the bell rang to signal the end of the tutorial.Jack's day was pretty normal after the PETA assembly that followed the tutorial, describing the horrible ways in which they lock animals up. Kaffir had punched him in the eye for taking the last kitkat in the vending machines. However, the black eye mysteriously disappeared before he arrived home, which Jack did not complain about as he wouldn’t want his mother worrying. Letitiah accidentally spilt some acids in their science classroom, causing the room to be closed for the rest of the day, and they finished the day with an awful P.E lesson where Jack was last picked for the Rugby teams. He never understood why, as he wasn’t that bad at sports, and he was rather agile in Rugby. Although Kaffir had been one of the people choosing the teams, so that might have had something to do with it.
